Thats not to say that I dont enjoy a walk in the neighborhood or along the beach, but camping, fishing and even gardening are not things that I did for fun.But the pandemic changed a lot of that. Now my appreciation for being outdoors and trying new outdoor activities and adventures has changed. Twenty years ago when myhusbandPaulsuggestedgetting an RV and taking a cross country trip with our two children, the oldest 19 atthetime,andtheyoungest10,I quickly declined. No way was I going toroughitcampingandlivingin such a tiny space for weeks. Well, fast forward, and now the kids are grown and camping has definitely changed. It no longer requires living in the wilderness with no creature comforts. In fact, these days, you can enjoy all the comforts of home while camping and traveling the countryside. So, guess who is camping, walking trails and even gardening now, ME!I havent quite gotten the fishing thing just yet, but thanks to our generous friend and neighbor Herbert Lowman, whos mastered the sport of fishing and doesnt mind sharing his catch with his neighbors, Im cleaning fish and enjoying a fresh catch.InthiseditionofIMARAWoman Magazine, were highlighting folks who are taking advantage of all nature has to offer and are discovering South Carolinas great outdoor places.There is a wonderful new way to explore South Carolina from the upstate to the Lowcountry, and its called the Palmetto Trail (page 18). Rural communities are also getting in on the act. The town of Eastover started a community garden in the Spring and young and old are working together, learning more about nature and growing fresh fruits and vegetables for the town (page 22). So, take a look around and discover the beauty of South Carolinas rivers, mountains, lakes and trails.
